Your nation’s capital

Washington DC looks like a capital city, it reminded me of New Delhi in which the institutions of government and power are laid out with formaility and ceremony that makes it clear to the populous that the place has a distinct purpose.

A day or two in DC interacting with government is an intriguing and rewarding experience. It’s unusal to try and explain what you / we do in a context wider than the world of advertising and marketing and to look at the long term and structural implications of potential changes in our corporate landscape.

It’s even more interesting to get insight into the process by which cases are built and decisions are made and the incredible (and repeating) rounds of self-education that the staff need to go through to understand issues and distill those issues into arguments that can be articulated to a judge who is highly to be far less well-informed than the protagonists.
