Google is an entirely admirable organization and its ability to connect marketers and their prospects has added a really valuable weapon to the communications arsenal.
I can’t help feeling that they can be disengenuous at times. It appears that Google is preparing to position its venture with Yahoo as a US only proposition thereby avoiding scrutiny by the European Union which tends to be as circumspect as any of the world’s regulators.
Geo-targeting probably does allow this proposition to be true but holds less water if you believe that the venture will slow the development of competitive platforms and thus create an eventual monopoly.
Google might argue that the auction based nature of search reduces the issue of monopolistic control and if they do believe that then let’s get on with a regulatory review to determine if they are right.
