Mumbai 6am, Monday March 3rd. Day 1 of a rapid exploration of the state of the digital nation in India and China.
I don’t know what I expect to find here but what I am really trying to grasp is a sense of digital usage by western brands versus local brands, the likely impact of technology on economic growth, what the the 10 year horizon looks like and who the likely winner might be between the PC and the cell phone. Not much to ask.
When the web started in the USA and UK usage, beyond the abstract notion of surfing and the less abstract one of file sharing, was largely instrumental characterized by online shopping, banking and of course e mail. Will it be the same here or will we see a nascent web 2.0 culture in which IM, social networks and 21st century communications dominate those digitally enabled 20th century activities.
